The Adamist’s represent the  natural human genotype. Their distinction is that they still retain the same basic genetic structure that  evolved through human history.

Due to religious and moral considerations the people of Earth and most  early space colonists rejected the idea of tinkering with the human genetic pattern. (There are a number of exceptions, such as the Lunar colonists, though they never adopted Affinity). ‘Correction’ and selection of genes (Eugenics) had become normal and acceptable but the idea of creating a new improved human  was considered moraly wrong.

The two defining moments that created  Edenism is firstly the death of Wing-Tsit Chong, the first human to ‘cheat’ death by having his personality transfer through affinity into a Bitek habitat’s neural strata.

Clearly a hugely signification event for all of mankind, it shocked and outraged most religious groups.A few days later Pope Eleanor excommunicated all Christians with the affinity gene.

Thus began the exodus of affinity  gene carriers towards the Jovian colony of Eden.

The term Adamist was first adopted in an address Pope Eleanor gave to Global News Network, where she described the churches position as “protecting Adam, the image of the divine lord against the machinations of those of who wish to reduce humanity to nothing more than machinary to be built and destroyed.”.

Since the development of Affinity there had been controversy over its possession and use.Affinity changes everything. Governments feared their overthow. Many powerbrokers feared the advantages that affinity carriers would have in business and politics. The media often painted Affinity carriers as a new and worrying cult, for the early adopters of Affinity who had the gene retro-fitted to their makeup the awakening that they experienced often gave them an evangelical bent.

Human society continued to change and adapt.The Adamists on Earth and the surrounding O’Neil halo continue the philosophical and religious traditions while the Edenists create a whole new culture which is completely dominated by the effects of Affinity. In 2103 A.D. Earth is finally unified under GovCentral. By this time the BiTek industry had virtually collapsed outside of Eden. In the years that followed both Adamists and Edenists began to colonise the galactic region, the relationship between them cordial, but distant.
