Edenist’s have over the centuries of human space travel developed starships based on their organic technology (known as Bitek). These starships were the product of generations of work conducted by the hundred families, a loose collection of merchant families who collectively funded the project to create a bitek starship back during the founding years of Edenism.

The Voidhawk can be considered an extension of Edenist society. When a Voidhawk reaches maturity it is typically  100 metres in diameter, having a lenticular (lens) form .

It must be remembered that because they are bred, not manufactured, they contain countless individual distinctions, including personalities. Physically the most obviously differences are in colouration and proportion. The hundred families have developed 100 different branches of voidhawks, each carries its own distinct lineage.

While the first generations were genetically modified to enhance their characteristics today no such interference takes place. Reproduction is by a mating ritual which ensures that natural selection sustains the quality of the voidhawk gene-pool.
