The Hounds of Avalon Mark Chadbourn The Hounds of Avalon is the third and final book in The
Dark Age series, following the previous two books; The Devil in Green
and The Queen of Sinister.
In it, we are treated to a picture of just what the British government
was doing during and after the Fall, and of the real threat to the world, only
hinted at in the previous books. A short recap is probably necessary.
During the Age of Misrule series, the Gods came back – and
technology failed. (In some ways
its comparable to Dies the Fire.)
A group of heroes called the Brothers and Sisters of Dragons were
summoned by Existence, eventually defeating the Gods.
While technology returned to the world, magic remained as well, along
with all the supernatural creatures that came back with the Gods.
The Dark Age series followed the second group of Brothers and
Sisters of Dragons; The Hounds of Avalon reintroduces three of the original five
as well. The Hounds of Avalon has a more detailed view of events
than any other of the books in the series.
We not only have the five heroes, but the views of the military leaders
and politicians as well. The nature
of the threat, revealed in the final pages, is truly chilling… It is a very good book. It’s a pity that there are three books in the third series still to be written, because I can’t wait. (I have a spare copy, unread, for £5 or a trade. Email me if interested (remove 'spamproof')).
